Schools

Work

At St Peter's we don’t just rely on children coming to church, we take church out to the children.

We are involved in taking assemblies in all the primary schools in town, some schools occasionally and others every week.

Some of our most popular assemblies are taken by our ‘Open the Book’ team. This is a highly creative group of people who encourage the children in assemblies to act out the Bible stories with as much enthusiasm and gusto as they can manage. In fact, the most difficult part of any assembly is choosing which children to be actors as there are always so many hands to choose from. The team are always delighted by the number of children who come up to them in the street to say how much they enjoy their Open the Book assemblies.

Schools also use the church for special occasions, we host Easter, harvest, Christmas and leavers' celebrations regularly and it is lovely for us to see how gifted the young people in the town are.

Before the pandemic, we were involved in taking assemblies in all the primary schools, some schools occasionally and others every week. We are working on building up these relationships again, and extending our relationships with the pre-schools as well.
